Key achievements to date until July 2021:    

•          Use of Gipping Valley & Thurston Schools Sports partnership to deliver a broad range of sport to UKS2 pupils. In addition, Staff develop skills in PE teaching while working alongside qualified coaches.

•          GVTSSP – deliver after school clubs to UKS2 focusing on ball games, team games & athletics

•          Premier Sports – deliver broad range of sport to KS2

•          Premier Sport – deliver after school clubs to LKS2 focusing on team games and athletics.

•          Sports Week for all children – July 2021 to raise the profile of PE and sport throughout the School and enhance fitness and well-being.

Previous provision pre-pandemic have included residential trips for Y4 and Y6 with a focus on a range of outdoor activities such as kayaking, climbing/abseiling, team building exercises and archery; range of after school clubs focusing on different year groups; competitive games; sports days with local schools; Bikeability   

Areas for further improvement:

•          Ensure current Year 4 have the opportunity to learn to swim.

•          Continue to develop the skills of staff through the joint delivery of PE lessons.

•          Develop links with other areas of the curriculum to promote a healthy lifestyle.

•          Continue to explore the use of specialist coaches to develop skills in specific sports e.g. cricket.

 

Swimming

Meeting national curriculum requirements for swimming and water safety. 

What percentage of your current Year 6 cohort swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres? 89%

What percentage of your current Year 6 cohort use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]?86%

Schools can choose to use the Primary PE and Sport Premium to provide additional provision for swimming but this must be for activity over and above the national curriculum requirements. Have you used it in this way? No

Additional swimming provision for Y5 2021/22 organised for Autumn 2021 (£1780 + cover teacher cost + shallow water training)

Objectives:

  1. Engage all pupils in regular physical activity
  2. Raise the profile of PE and sport across the school
  3. Increase the confidence and knowledge of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
  4. Offer a broader experience of sports and activities
  5. Increased participation in competitive sport.
  • Following several periods of instability. Aim to re-engage children in sport through Sport & Well-being week (05.07.21). Additional PE coaches for each key stage. PHSE programme focusing on healthy eating and well-being.

Cost – Premier Sport £600; GVSSP £60; Equipment £200

  • Summer sports club for each key stage 2 class focusing on athletics, team games and ball games.(Cost £600)
  • Activity days for Y6 in lieu of residential trip – crate stacking, quad biking, archery & bush craft - £2200
  • Additional sports coach to upskill staff in delivery of PE curriculum - £780 per term
  • Forest School – member of staff to be trained to assist Forest School Leader in KS1 - £1200
  • Member of GVSSP – provide sports coaching and competitions for cluster of primary schools (membership cost, transport to events £160 approx)
  • Equipment to deliver provision of sports – renewal and additional - £3500
